Fingers in Pies – by Aruna from London
I thought I’d share this story with you!
I received a call last week after leaving 5 messages with people advertising property to let. The lady said, “You left a message a couple of weeks ago, however that property has now gone. But we have a lovely 3 bed which we are currently refurbishing if you are interested.” She then went into detail about the fixtures & fittings and what a lovely house it is. We were talking quite some time, but it just didn’t click that this was about a property for rent. I thought it was someone selling and returning a message I’d left for a home-owner who had responded to an ad looking for motivated sellers!
I was wracking my brains as I couldn’t remember the property, and she finally got quite curt on the phone, and said, “Are you interested in renting, or not?” From the conversation it was clear they had no difficulty letting their properties, but rather than saying “No thank you” – I said, “Yes, I am looking to rent with a view to buying your property in the future”. She curtly replied: “No thank you” and put the phone down!
Lesson: When you have your fingers in so many pies, know which pie they are in!
